Experience
I am a believer in fostering independence. I believe that in this way I am empowering people to learn and think critically, and I am truly helping people. The teachers in my life that have made the biggest impact on me were the ones that challenged me to come to my own conclusions, and did not spoon-feed me the answers when I was struggling. This definitely drives my style of teaching as a tutor. Often times I will answer a question with another question that is meant to guide the student to the answer. I feel that part of being a good tutor is to be a facilitator.I have a deep understanding of how intimidating the subject of Organic Chemistry can be as my bachelor's degree is in clinical laboratory science from Fairleigh Dickinson University-College at Florham. During my courses at college, I was fortunate enough to learn the power of analogies in understanding this subject. I was taught many analogies, as well as creating many of my own. I found that the power of analogy is in the ability to help visualize and think at the molecular level, which is critical to understanding Organic Chemistry. Along with analogies, I have also been known to draw pictures, tell weird stories, and make comparisons that are unusual, but effective in my tutoring sessions. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano at Open Mic nights, write my own music, cook, and volunteer in a variety of organizations.
